  1. Thanks for writing this, Emily. It made me tearful to think of having to explain all this to your little kids. You did it really well.
    My Mom lived at 16th Avenue and 38th Street for many many years. That’s a great neighborhood. What’s happening to it is really sad.
    I hope things calm down tonight, and that you and your family stay safe.

    1. Thanks for reading, Mark. I’m glad something there connected with you. As for calming down, things seem to be headed in the opposite direction. We have evacuated our home. There are several factors that make our specific block especially dangerous right now. I hope in hind sight it will seem an overreaction.
