You wouldn’t know it by my activity on this website, but April has been a busy writing month for me. At present, I’ve got four new pieces in the hopper, which will hopefully trickle out soon, according to my editors’ publication schedules.
In the meantime, I thought it was important to share with you something I created for the Macalester Alumni Anti-Racist Parenting Conversation on April 6. Some of you may remember that the Alumni Board had invited me to co-facilitate what had been envisioned as a one-off event back in December 2020. The response was so great that they decided to host a second event and invited me back as a panelist. I spoke about how to talk to your little kids when something big happens (like a police killing) and how to keep the conversation going every day.
The events of the past couple of weeks have hammered home just how important it is that we all continually put in the work needed to create an anti-racist future. If you have kids in your life, I hope these slides spark some of your own ideas of how you can do that.
